KNPC plans permanent liquefied natural gas terminal
US engineering firm Foster Wheeler has been awarded a design deal for a proposed permanent liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Kuwait.
Foster Wheeler won the pre-front-end engineering and design (feed) and feed deals in mid-November, according to Khaled al-Awadhi, the New Refinery Project (NRP) manager at state-owned Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).
The value of the contracts and the date of completion have not been announced.
The permanent LNG terminal will be located at Al-Zour in the south of Kuwait, near the site of the planned 615,000 barrel-a-day (b/d) New Refinery. KNPC is responsible for the countrys refineries, gas processing plants, petroleum product distribution and LNG imports.
Since late 2009, Kuwait has imported LNG using a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Ahmadi gas port near the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery.
