Four compete for Zayed museum

15 November 2007

The local Tourism Develop-ment & Investment Company has shortlisted four firms for the architectural competition to design the Sheikh Zayed National Museum on Saadiyat island in Abu Dhabi.

The shortlist includes designs by the UK’s Foster & Partners, Norway’s Snohetta, Shingeru Ban of Japan and Moriyama & Teshima of Canada. All of the concepts meet the design criteria of environmental efficiency and sustainability.

The museum, one of the most prestigious projects in the emirate, will span 13,000 square metres housing five galleries.

The museum will be located in the cultural district of Saadiyat Island, close to other developments such as the Abu Dhabi Louvre and the Guggenheim museum (MEED 15:6:07).

The Tourism Development & Investment Company invited 13 firms to submit designs.
