French firm studies projects in East Port Said

06 December 2015

Egypt has been keen on pressing ahead with industrial zone projects in the Suez Canal area

French industrial firm Bollore is looking to develop a number of transportation and logistics projects in Egypt, according to a statement released by Egypt’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Small Industries.

Minister of industry Tarek Qabil said in a press conference following a meeting with the French firm on 2 December that Bollore is currently studying projects in the East Port Said area and the Dekhela Axis Development.

In November MEED reported that Russia is also set to develop its proposed industrial zone in the East Port Said area according to the chairman of the Egyptian Industrial Development Authority (IDA), Ismail Gaber.

Negotiations between the IDA and the Russian government for the industrial zone are understood to have resumed after stalling due to the crash of the Russian passenger plane over the Sinai area on 31 October.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s IDA has said that the 2 million square metre Russian industrial zone will service industries such as engineering, machineries, ship manufacturing and foods.

In early September, MEED also reported that the UAE’s Aramex is currently in talks with Cairo-based Orascom Telecom Media and Technology Holding for the development of several logistics projects in Egypt. Damman-based Zamil Industrial is also set to develop a 202,342-square-metre logistics centre, which will be built in the Qena governorate.
