Frances Vallourec to supply equipment for South Korean-constructed Shuqaiq steam power plant
French company Vallourec has been selected to supply equipment for the Shuqaiq steam power plant, currently under construction in Saudi Arabia.
Vallourec will supply 10,000 tonnes of tubes for the plant boilers, which are to be delivered in the first, second and third quarters of 2014.
South Koreas Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) was awarded the $3.3bn construction deal for the plant on 4 August 2013. The client for the project is the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).
HHI has made contract awards to US GE for the supply of 24 variable-speed drives (VSD) of 18MW each and Frances Alstom to supply four 720MW steam turbine generator sets.
The Shuqaiq power plant will be built on a turnkey basis, which is to include engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), testing and commissioning. The plant will be located on the Red Sea coast, about 580 kilometres south of Jeddah, and is scheduled to be commissioned in 2017.
