22 March 2015

Contract covers preparing plans for three rail lines

A French team of Egis and Systra has been awarded a contract for design work on the Medina Metro project in Saudi Arabia.

The 12-month contract involves designing three lines, green, blue, and red, that together will total 95 kilometres in length. Some 25km will be underground and 48km will be above ground.

The team will be tasked with carrying out the feasibility studies and the preliminary design for the metro, including the preparation of invitation to tender documentation for design and build contracts.

The project client is Medina Metro Development Authority (MMDA), which is planning for the proposed metro network to start operations in 2020.

Medina is just one of the upcoming metro projects planned for Saudi Arabia. Metro Jeddah Company has invited companies to attend an industry briefing day in Jeddah on 30 March that will give details of the Jeddah Metro project.
