Work is part of the Nizwa to Ibri road project
Oman’s Transport and Communications Ministry has awarded the local Galfar Engineering & Contracting Company a OR35.2m ($91m) contract to build dual carriageway on the Nizwa to Ibri road.
The work involves constructing a dual carriageway between Jabrin and Ibri. It is the second stage of the ministry’s project to convert the single carriageway from Nizwa to Ibri into a dual carriageway.
Galfar saw off competition from 19 other contractors to win the road deal.
The local contractor has won a number of contracts from the transport ministry this year. In March, Galfar was awarded a OR11.5m contract to upgrade the Birkat al-Mouz to Sayq road in Oman.
In February, it was awarded a RO40.5m contract to build phase two of Ras al-Hadd airport. The deal involves the construction of a 4-kilometre-long runway, taxiways and aprons, as well as the provision of fuel hydrant facilities, navigation aids and associated facilities (MEED 25:2:10).
