Gas reinjection project planned at Habshan

11 October 2002

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has invited companies to submit technical and commercial bids by 22 October for a contract to carry out a pre-front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for a major gas reinjection project at Habshan. The project, entailing recovery and utilisation of carbon dioxide (CO2) for enhanced oil recovery at the Bab Thamama B oil reservoir, is aimed at reinjecting about 100 million cubic feet a day of gas into the onshore oil field.

The scope of works includes: the collection of CO2 from steam reformers and boilers at the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) refinery at Ruwais and the Ruwais Fertiliser Industries (Fertil) complex; construction of facilities for the compression of CO2; supply and installation of a 100-120-kilometre-long pipeline from Ruwais to Habshan for the transportation of recovered gas; and reinjection of CO2 into the oil reservoir.
