Entrant: Al-Faraa Group
Project owner: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company
Project contractor: Al-Faraa General Contracting
Engineering consultant: Aecom
Architect: Sheppard Robson
Description: The Siemens headquarters in the UAE is a new model for sustainable office buildings, and is based in Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City development, which is the world’s first carbon-neutral, zero-waste city powered entirely by renewable energy.
Using world-class materials, the project maximises energy efficiency and the use of natural light to lessen its mechanical load, while mitigating excess solar gain to ensure the structure stays cool.
The headquarters is the first building in the UAE to achieve LEED Platinum certification for energy efficiency and is set to garner an Estidama 3-pearl rating for its water conservation efforts.
