Germans awarded Taweelah-Fujairah pipeline contract

24 December 2007
The local Dolphin Energy has awarded Germany’s Salzgitter Mannesmann the $200m pipe supply contract for the Taweelah to Fujairah Gas Pipeline (TFP).

The contract involves the supply of 120,000 tonnes of X70 48-inch coated line pipe. The first deliveries are expected in the summer of 2008, and delivery completion is expected in spring 2009. The pipe will be manufactured at the Europipe Steel Mill in Germany.

The pipeline will link Dolphin Energy’s gas receiving facilities at Taweelah on the Abu Dhabi coast with the Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) Power and Water Desalination Plant at Qidfa in Fujairah, on the federation’s east coast. It will be laid over an environmentally approved cross-country route, through more than 240 kilometres of desert and mountains.

The bids for the design and construction of the TFP are due by 31 January. Nine contracting companies were invited to bid in November 2007. The contractor will be appointed before summer (MEED 27:4:07).
