Biography: Ghassan Ahmad Rassim established Rassim Law Firm in Baghdad in 1977. It focused on commercial, civil and criminal cases.

The company opened a representative office in Amman to cope with its expanding workload, following the 2003 US-lead invasion. Rassim moved to Amman as the security situation deteriorated in Iraq, and returned to Baghdad in 2007.

Prior to setting up Rassim Law Firm, he worked at the Oil Ministry’s legal department for 10 years before being made director in 1977. He acted as a consultant legal expert to the ministry as recently as 2008, as it prepared for Iraq’s oil licensing rounds.

Rassim was one of the most important signatories of a petition submitted to the Iraqi parliament in 2007, emphasising the need for an oil law to regulate activity in the sector and providing recommendations.

Rassim graduated from Baghdad University in 1967.
