Gulf Holding awards $216m contract to redevelop Manama

Gulf Holding Company, a Kuwaiti company, has awarded a $216m contract to redevelop a large part of Manama in Bahrain.

The Kuwaiti company awarded the contract for the Downtown Al-Areen project to Ahmed Mansoor al-Aali Company, a Bahraini contractor.

The contract includes the redevelopment of the main boulevard including retail, residential areas, offices, a supermarket and a hotel.

Ahmed Mansoor al-Aali Company will begin building work in the first quarter of 2008.

Gulf Holding Company expects the redevelopment to be finished by the end of 2009.

Atkins from the UK prepared the concept designs (MEED 31:3:06).
