US-based firm wins $1.9m contract lasting for 15 months

US-based Hill International has been appointed to project manage the construction of the $500m Terminal 2 building project at Cairo International airport.

Hill’s 15-month contract is valued at $1.9m.

A joint venture of Turkey’s Limak Investment and India’s GMR Infrastructure won the construction deal for the project in November 2011.

The renovation of the terminal will involve upgrading the existing passenger terminal to handle up to 7.5 million passengers a year, more than double its current capacity of 3.5 million passengers a year. The scheme will also involve building a new departure hall and airside pier, as well as the construction of larger gates to accommodate Airbus A380 aircraft.

The client on the project is Cairo Airports Company, a division of Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation.
