Consultant will design two facilities on the campus

HOK has been selected to design Kuwait University’s new College of Architecture (COA) and College of Computing Sciences and Engineering (CCSE) buildings at the Sabah al-Salem University City at Shadadiyah.

The US-based firm will partner with the local office of KEO International Consultants as the architect of record. KEO will also provide construction supervision services for the two colleges.

Totalling about 44,000 square metres, the buildings will complete the initial build-out of the 6 million sq m Sabah Al-Salem Kuwait University City campus. Located on opposite ends of the site, the buildings will form new gateways at the western and eastern ends of the academic campus.

HOK was earlier involved in the project as the consultant for the masterplan.

In July, Kuwait’s Central Tenders Committee (CTC) approved the award of a KD37m ($123m) contract to a joint venture of the local Kharafi National and China State Construction Engineering Corporation for the construction of a central utilities plant at the site.

Last year, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education awarded a joint venture China State and Kharafi National a KD140m contract for building work on the project.
