Position: President and CEO, Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco)

Biography: Hwan-Eik Cho is the president and CEO at Kepco. In 2009, a Kepco-led consortium was awarded a $20bn contract to build the first four reactors for the UAE’s nuclear power project at Baraka. The first is scheduled to come online in 2017, with the remaining three planned for completion in 2020.

The agreement also gives Kepco the right to hold shares in the scheme. Cho was appointed in December 2012 to replace Joong-Kyum Kim. Prior to this, he served on the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency. Cho has been a director of Samsung Electro-Mechanics and CEO of Korea Export Insurance Corporation.

He was previously a vice-minister within South Korea’s Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry. Cho is a chair-professor at the Hanyang University’s Ansan campus and holds a postgraduate degree from the same South Korean university.
