Hydroplants PQs announced

02 July 2004
Office Nationale de l'Electricite (ONE) has prequalified six companies and groups for the consultancy contract to carry out technical studies on the remote processing and rehabilitation of several hydroelectric stations. An award is scheduled for mid-October. The project, part-financed by Kreditanstalt fuer Wiederaufbau (KfW), involves the renovation of 20-25 of the kingdom's hydroelectric plants and the construction of two new remote operating centres. Currently each station has its own control centre and the project aims at centralising the control system to improve efficiency. KfW is also part-financing two planned 22-MW hydroelectric plants at Tanafit and El-Borj, on the Oum R'bia river in the Kenifa region. ONE is evaluating bids for 10 lots on the projects, which have a combined estimated value of Eur 100 million ($121 million). The contracts will be awarded by the end of the year (MEED 12:3:04).
