Iberdrola and Fisia bid low for Hassyan 1 power and water project

Spanish and French firms team up for engineering, procurement and construction work

A team of Spain’s Iberdrola Ingenieria Y Construccion and France’s Alstom is the low bidder for the power portion of the planned Hassyan 1 power and water project.

The group bid AED6.6bn ($1.8bn) for the engineering, procurement and construction contract to build the 1,500MW power plant.

South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction bid AED7.5bn and Italy’s Saipem bid AED9.5bn.

Two companies bid for the desalination work on the project. Italy’s Fisia Italimpianti was the low bidder with a price of AED3.3bn.

Doosan bid AED3.5bn. The desalination plant will have capacity of 100-120 million gallons a day of water.

The companies submitted bids to the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority on 8 November.

The authority has not set a timetable for the award of either contract or the start of construction work.
