Contractor will install substations and cables as part of phase 13 for transmission network expansion programme

India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded an $817m contract for phase 13 on Qatar’s electricity transmission network expansion plan.

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) awarded L&T the contract to procure and install 30 new gas insulated substations of voltages between 66kV and 220kV, in addition to 132kV and 66kV of underground cables with a total length of 560km.

L&T has been involved with phases 8, 10 and 11 of Qatar’s transmission upgrade programme. Kahramma has previously awarded L&T contracts worth $1.1bn for more than 40 substations and about 100km of high voltage cabling projects.

The project will take 15 to 31 months to complete.
