Intel launches Xeon 5500

Intel released the latest version of its business processor range, the Xeon 5500 today. The server platform is a complete redesign from the previous version and, the company says, includes a number of improvements. Intel claims the 45nanometre Xeon 5500 is 54% more power efficient than the 5400, can handle up to 144GB of memory across 18 modules and has the ability to dynamically increase its clock speed by up to 400MHz above its official rate on one or more of its four cores.
