Iran invites firms to bid for Kish gas field

10 March 2009
The state-run Iranian Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (Pedec) has issued a tender inviting companies to bid for the drilling of a second offshore appraisal well in the Kish gas field.

The tender follows a deal signed in 2008 between Pedec and National Iranian Drilling Company(NIDC) for the first phase of drilling development in the field, which is estimated to hold 48 trillion cubic feet of gas (MEED 11:6:08).

The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) had previously forecast production of 3.5 billion cubic feet a day from the field. It thinks that 75 per cent of all gas reserves are recoverable.

India's ONGC Videsh and Tehran's state-run Petropars held talks in early 2008 with National Iranian Oil Company over development of the field.

Iran also held discussions with the Omani authorities in October 2008 (MEED 2:9:08).
