Prospective contractors to meet on Iraq-Jordan crude pipeline

Iraq’s State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP) has invited companies bidding to construct the planned Iraq Strategic Crude Oil Export Pipeline Project to attend a roadshow on the scheme.

The estimated $12bn project, which will provide an outlet to export Iraqi crude through Jordan’s Red Sea coast, was revived at the start of the year, MEED reported in March.

“SCOP… has pleasure to announce an invitation to the specialist companies, which have already submitted previously their interest to bid for the… Iraqi part of the project, to attend the proposed presentation,” the company said in an announcement.

The presentation, which is taking place on 10 December, is also open to “any other specialist companies that have an interest to bid”.

In 2013 Iraq pre-qualified 12 companies and joint ventures to build the export pipeline to Jordan, but it the project was put on hold due to security concerns.

The pipeline project has been revived with a new route that has been designed to avoid territory that is controlled by militant group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (Isis).

It is expected the pipeline will now follow the original route up to the city of Najaf, which lies 150km south of Baghdad. After this point, it will stay close to the country’s southern border.

The project is being handled by Scop, which is a subsidiary of the Oil Ministry.
