Iraq’s Ministry of Oil has revived plans to build a new refinery near the town of Haditha in the Anbar governorate with a production capacity of 70,000 barrels a day (b/d).
Prequalification documents have been issued, and the deadline for the submission is 14 June 2018.
The project will be executed using the build, own, operate, transfer model (BOOT) or build, own, operate model (BOO), in line with existing Iraqi regulations.
The refinery contract is estimated to be worth $350m.
An invitation to bid (ITB) on the project was previously issued in mid-2017, but the tender stalled and before the end of the year it was ultimately cancelled for unknown reasons.
The Haditha refinery project is part of a larger scheme to increase downstream activity and reduce imports of refined products.
Earlier this month, Iraq’s Oil Ministry said it is aiming to reduce the import of oil products and derivatives by one quarter in an attempt to save the federal government’s revenues, following a directive issued by Oil Minister Jabbar Al-Luiebi.
