Israel-Palestine violence erupts along new fault lines

Palestinian anger over occupation, police brutality and the bombardment in Gaza has boiled over into protest and resistance in every sphere of Israeli control

The narrative has become depressingly familiar. Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians dissolve into Hamas firing rockets into Israel, to be met by overwhelming and disproportionate air strikes that kill hundreds of Gazans and devastate the territory’s infrastructure.

Eventually the international calls for ceasefire are met, but after much pointless loss of life, and, out of this wreckage, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu look set to emerge in a stronger position. 

This time, though, there are subtle variations in the story that threaten to upend some of these cliches. Read more here
