
'It is very depressing and very sad to see that we have come to this position where this is what we do. There is disbelief,' said human rights activist Rabbi Arik Ascherman, who distributed photos of the incident.
The Israeli Justice Ministry said it would investigate the allegations. 'I know there was violent rioting, serious rock throwing. It's unclear what happened,' said police spokesman Gil Kleiman. 'As a general rule, we do not expose civilians to physical damage willingly.'
The Israeli Supreme Court banned the use of human shields in 2002 after a Palestinian man was shot when the Israeli army used him as a shield during a military operation in Gaza.
