Italy’s Prysmian Group has been awarded a contract worth €80m ($94m) from Bahrain’s Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) to install a 400kV transmission line.
The new 400kV cable loop circuit will build on EWA’s strategic 400kV Transmission Development Programme, 2009-2013, and will include the first 400kV submarine cable to be installed in the GCC.
Prysmian was previously awarded a contract by the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) for a 400kV oil-filled cable submarine interconnection between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
The project will involve the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 400kV power link, including a section of 400kV submarine cable. The Italian firm will supply three submarine high voltage alternating current (Hvac) 400kV land cables for a total length of nearly 13km, and three 400kV land cables with insulation with a total length of 46km.
