Italian firm wins Ras Abu Ali upgrade contract

25 February 2009
Saudi Aramco has awarded Italian contractor Bonatti a SR594m ($158m) contract to upgrade the water injection facilities at the Ras Abu Ali plant which handles gas-oil separation for the Berri oil field.

Bonatti will be formally awarded the deal on 28 February by Aramco and expects the contract to run for approximately three years.

The scope includes new water injection systems, a disposal and turbine control system and the replacement of three gas turbines as part of a general pumping capacity upgrade to 800,000 barrels of water a day from 600,000 barrels a day.

The local Clough-Zuhair Fayez Partnership carried out the front-end engineering and design work and is expected to be selected by Bonatti for overall engineering on the project once the contract is signed.

Ras Abu Ali is around 50 kilometres north of Jubail and is the site of gas-oil separation and gas gathering facilities for Berri.
