Jeddah receives interests for metro scheme

Deadline for submissions fell on 3 September

  • Metro Jeddah Company receives expressions of interest for civil works of Jeddah metro scheme
  • Main contracts for the three separate packages of the metro project were due for award in 2016

Saudi Arabia’s Metro Jeddah Company (MJC) has confirmed receiving expressions of interest (EoIs) from contractors for the civil works of the Jeddah metro scheme.

The deadline for EoI submission was 3 September. The company would not confirm whether it needs to extend the deadline to accommodate more contractors.

Once all EoIs have been received, the MJC will start prequalifying contractors, which will then bid for the civils contract.

The main contracts for the three separate packages of the metro project were due for award in 2016, with the completion date for the Green, Orange and Blue lines set for 2020, and the Red line for 2022.

The metro network will feature four lines, with a total of 113 kilometres of elevated double track, 44km of tunnel, 85 stations and five depots.

The civil works for each line include:

  • Red line: 24 stations, 15km tunnel, 45km elevated double track
  • Blue line: 19 stations, 7km tunnel, 27km elevated double track
  • Green line: 12 stations, 14km tunnel, 4km elevated double track
  • Orange line: 30 stations, 8km tunnel, 37km elevated double track
