Jeddah start transport masterplan prequalification

11 June 2015

Tenders are for project management office and project / construction management consultancy

  • $12bn transport masterplan entails metro, ferry and bus transport
  • Prequalification deadline set for 8 July

Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Metro Company has released a series of project management tenders for the various components of the $12bn Jeddah Public Transportation Program (JPTP). The deadline for filing prequalification documents with the Jeddah Metro Company falls on 8 July.

Jeddah is under pressure to deliver an improved public transportation network due to its rapidly growing population and economic activities that have been accompanied by a significant increase in road accidents. The city has also seen significant increases in annual numbers of travellers making Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

Earlier this year, the UK’s Foster+Partners has been awarded an $80m contract to establish a city network plan that integrates different modes of transportation, including metro, ferry and bus.

Consultancy service packages on tender include those for the overarching JPTP project management office (PMO), and project or construction management (PMCM) for the following packages:

  • Obhur Creek Bridge
  • Marine Services, LRT, Corniche tramway, bus rapid transit (BRT) and bus network
  • Metro Orange Line
  • Metro Red Line
  • Metro Green and Blue Lines including Al-Muntalaq Station
  • Metro systems

In 2014, the Jeddah Metro Company awarded US-based Aecom a $28m contract to provide pre-programme management consultancy services for the JPTP, which has the Jeddah Metro scheme as a major component.
