JGC wins major Algerian plant work

10 July 2008

A consortium led by Japan’s JGC Corporation has won a $470m contract to build a gas processing plant at the Rhourde Nouss field in the southeast of Algeria.

The retendered engineering, procurement and construction contract covers the construction of a 1,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d) crude processing unit and a compression station with capacity of 8 million cm/d.

The work also involves increasing existing gas compression capacity to 20 million cm/d (MEED 28:9:07).

JGC beat competition from Italy’s Saipem, Canada’s SNC Lavalin and Europe’s ABB to win the project, which will last three years.

JGC is also bidding for a contract to build a third liquefied petroleum gas plant at the Hassi Messaoud oil and gas complex in central Algeria (MEED 28:5:08).

The client on both schemes is state energy company Sonatrach.
