Port will be converted for use by cruise ships
A Belgian joint venture of DEME and Jan de Nul has been awarded an estimated QR436m ($119m) contract for dredging and construction work on the redevelopment of the Old Doha Port in Qatar.
Dredging works involve the realignment of the access channel and the construction work includes building a mooring dolphin structure. The works will commence in 2018. The project client is the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
The redeveloped port will serve as a cruise terminal and will accommodate the largest vessels.
Jan De Nul Group has already executed several major projects in Qatar such as the dredging and reclamation for the port at Ras Laffan and the Gabbro Berth Expansion at Mesaieed Port.
