Jordan extends solar prequalification deadline

01 December 2014

Submission date for prequalification entries for Quweira plant now 18 December

Jordan’s Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources (MEMR) has extended the deadline for prequalification for the Quweira photovoltaic (PV) solar power project to 18 December.

Companies previously had until 4 December to submit documents.

The work involves engineering, procuring and construction (EPC) of the 65-75MW PV solar plant in Quweirah, located in southern Jordan. It also includes all civil works and operation and management of the facility.

The MEMR reopened prequalification after making minor changes to the scope of the project since the original prequalification process in 2013.

About 15 companies prequalified in 2013, including:

  • ABB (Switzerland)
  • Acciona Energia (Spain)
  • Belectric Solarkraftwerke (Germany)
  • Constructora Sanjose (Spain)
  • Elecnor (Spain)
  • First Solar Electric (US)
  • Gestamp Asetym Solar (Spain)
  • Hanwha Q Cells (Germany)
  • Isolux Ingenieria (Spain)
  • Juwi International (Germany)
  • Larsen & Toubro (India)
  • Solar World (US)
  • Sterling & Wilson (India)
  • Sunedison Italia Construction (Italy)
  • TSK Electronica Electricidad (Spain)

Jordan signed off its first 170MW round of direct proposal renewable energy projects in June. Proposals for the larger second round are due on 31 December, postponed from 30 September. The MEMR prequalified 47 firms in February, 24 conditionally.

The third round was cancelled due to a lack of grid and institutional capacity.

In March, National Electric Power Company (Nepco) awarded the local Shams Maan Power Generation Company a contract on a similar 52.5MW PV solar plant in southern Jordan.
