Jordan’s Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources (MEMR) has prequalified an additional contractor to participate in the tender for a project to build a 30MW photovoltaic (PV) solar project.

MEED reported earlier in October that MEMR had prequalified three contractors to participate in the tender for the solar project. MEMR has now added the UAE’s Belectric Gulf to the prequalification list.

The solar facility will be located south of the capital city Amman, and will provide energy for communities housing significant numbers of Syrian refugees.

The contract will involve the design, delivery and construction of a 30MW solar PV plant, followed by a period of operation and maintenance (O&M) services for 3 years.

The plant will be located at Al-Jizeh, about 8km southwest of Queen Alia International Airport. The plant will be interconnected to a 33kV substation, which will be provided by Nepco to connect the plant to the 132kV transmission line. The PV plant will supply power to the grid under a wheeling mechanism.
