JV wins terminal 3 and concourse 3 piling

10 February 2006

A joint venture of Germany's Bauer and the local Middle East Foundations has been awarded the piling package for the estimated AED 2,000 million ($545 million) terminal 3, concourse 3 project at Dubai International Airport. The contract calls for the installation of about 4,500 40-metre-deep piles.

The new concourse will have 20 gates, 18 of which will be dedicated to handling the new Airbus A380 aircraft. The concourse will also have a 250-room hotel and 12,000 square metres of retail space. It will be connected to concourse 2 and the terminal building by the airport's dedicated people mover system.

The local Al-Naboodah Contracting has been selected for the enabling works package and the Jebel Ali-based Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Middle East has been awarded the structural steel frame package. The main construction package for the project is expected to go out to tender soon and is likely to include construction of the structure and fit-out.

The consultant on the project is a joint venture of Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners) and France's Aeroports de Paris (AdP). The client is Dubai's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA - MEED 16:12:05).
