

US engineering, procurement, and construction company KBR has been awarded a contract to provide engineering support services for Adnoc Sour Gas.
Adnoc Sour Gas, formerly known as Al Hosn Gas, is a joint venture of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Abu Dhabi-based oil and gas company Occidental.
Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide personnel, equipment and resources to carry out engineering tasks and technical support on Al Hosn's Shah facilities in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
In a published statement, KBR said:
“The UAE remains a key market for KBR's global energy and hydrocarbons business and this award demonstrates KBR's ability to offer cost effective solutions to customers by combining global expertise and local presence.”
Adnoc Sour Gas is the client for several active projects In the UAE.
One key project is a sour gas plant, which is being built as part of the broader Shah Gas Development project.
It is hoped that when the entire Shah Gas Development project is completed the Shah field will be able to produce a billion standard cubic feet per day.
The gas will primarily be used as feedstock for new power, desalination and petrochemical plants in Abu Dhabi as well as the Northern Emirates and also for reinjection into oil fields to maintain reservoir pressure.
The sour gas plant consists of two packages that are worth a total of $2.3bn. Both of these packages are in the main contract prequalification phase.
There is also condensate storage package that is part of the Shah Gas Development project. It is worth an estimated $70m and is in the front end engineering design (feed) phase.
Other active projects include the North West Development: Dalma Field, which is at the study stage and has an estiated budget of $800m.
Adnoc Sour Gas is also the client on the Hail and Ghasha Sour Gas Development which his currently in the study phase and has an estimated budget of $15bn.
