Asghal plans wastewater network privatisation
Kuwait’s KEO International Consultants has won a QR5m ($1.4m) consultancy contract from Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
Under the deal, KEO will carry out post-contract consultancy services for the operation and maintenance of sewage pumping stations, treatment plants and the associated network across the country. This means KEO will be supervising operation and maintenance contractors.
Asghal is currently seeking a consultant to carry out a feasibility study on a public private partnership scheme covering the country’s wastewater and treated sewage effluent networks.
The study will be the first step towards outsourcing the operation and maintenance of the networks on the basis of a concession model.
In parallel to the feasibility study, Ashghal plans to tender a separate operation and maintenance contract. The contract will have a minimum duration of five years.
