Project is part of Doha’s $20bn programme to develop the state’s roads

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has awarded the local office of Keo International Consultants a QR3.9m ($1.7m) contract to provide consultancy and quantity surveying services for a proposed road project in Doha.

The project is part of Qatar’s plans to invest $20bn on new roads…in the next five years

Keo will provide design and quantity surveying services for development works at the E-ring Road and Wholesale Market Street in the capital city.

The road project is part of Qatar’s plans to invest $20bn on new roads and related drainage and infrastructure in the next five years.

Ashghal recently received bids for the contract to build the estimated QR1bn road network around the 2.7million square-metre Barwa City real estate project in Doha. On 24 August the works authority received bids from contractors to build 22 kilometres of dual internal roads around the residential development (MEED 12:5:10).

Doha also received bids from groups on the 27 July for the contract to reconstruct the Najma road. The estimated QR1.5bn project will involve the reconstruction of the Najma road extension from its junction with the E-ring road to just before the F-ring road. The works also include the construction of surrounding main and internal roads (MEED 4:7:10).

The investment in the country’s transport infrastructure is being carried out to address congestion in Doha. The plans are also in line with the Qatar National Masterplan that projects the country’s population will grow to about 2.5 million in the coming years, from the current level of 1.3 million.
