Biography: Khalid al-Buainain joined Saudi Aramco in 1980 after graduating with a degree in applied mechanical engineering from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
He was appointed to his current position in October 2012. He began his career as an engineer at the Ras Tanura refinery. In 1989, Al-Buainain was appointed superintendent for oil operations at Abqaiq, and later as superintendent for gas plant operations. In 1994, he moved to Tokyo as general manager of Saudi Petroleum.
He returned to the kingdom in 1997 as president and managing director for the Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery Company at Jubail. For much of the next decade, Al-Buainain worked within Aramco’s operational departments. In September 2007, he was named senior vice-president of refining, marketing and international.
