KOC unveils new projects

07 July 2006
State upstream operator Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has revealed details of new projects it plans to tender over the next 12 months. The list includes several major schemes covering new pipelines, electricity transmission and distribution systems and the possibility of a further round of oil production increases.

The most significant project is a second commercial early production facilities (EPF) project, in the north. Earlier this year, the local Safwan Petroleum Technologies Company (Spetco) was awarded the KD 69.3 million ($239 million) five-year build-operate (BO) EPF concession to process 50,000 barrels a day (b/d) of crude from 20 wells in two northern oil fields. The new EPF scheme will have capacity of 120,000 b/d, but remains unclear whether it will be developed on a private basis or built and operated
by KOC.
Other future work includes the supply and installation of two new substations in the Magwa and Sabriya fields, a new crude pipeline to serve the planned 615,000-b/d new refinery project at Al-Zour and a new gas booster station in the southeast.
