Three large hydropower projects and two run-of-river facilities planned for Kurdistan
The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Electricity Ministry is planning five hydropower projects totalling 1,305MW capacity.
Kamal Salih, general director of Dohuk for the KRG’s Electricity Ministry, outlined the plans at MEED’s Iraq Utilities 2012 conference in Istanbul today. Three projects will be built with associated infrastructure:
- 621MW hydropower project at Mandaw
- 350MW hydropower project at Taq Taq
- 261MW hydropower project at Rashawa
Two smaller run-of-river hydropower projects will be built. The first project will be built at Khawalesh and will have a capacity of 40MW. The other project will be built at Dereluk and will have a capacity of 30MW.
