Kuwait Airways buys 25 Airbus aircraft

20 February 2014

New planes will be used on Kuwait Airways’ long haul and regional routes

Kuwait Airways has ordered 25 aircraft from Europe’s Airbus. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

The aircraft are 10 A350-900 and 15 A320neo. The airline already operates three A320, three A310, five A300 and four A340 aircraft.

The A350-900 will strengthen Kuwait Airways’ long-haul operations and the A320neo will be deployed on its regional route network.

Kuwait has been planning to privatise the airline for several years. In 2013, the government announced it was reviving plans to privatise Kuwait Airways. The airline is not required to publish regular financial reports, but it is said to have built up more than $275m in losses in 2010/11. It has also not managed to report more than one year’s profitability in the past 20 years.
