Kuwait’s Finance Ministry has approved KD3bn ($9.9bn) worth of power, desalination and wastewater projects.

The Finance Ministry announced the approval on 15 August, according to local media reports. The $9.9bn-worth of schemes will boost the country’s generating capacity by about 3,850MW in addition to increasing the country’s desalination and wastewater plant capacities.

The ministry did not reveal funding resources for each project, but said that up to 50 per cent could come from stock market offerings.

The projects will include the upcoming Al-Zour North 2 and Al-Khiran 1 independent water and power projects (IWPPs).

Developers are currently waiting for the country’s public-private partnership (PPP) body, the Kuwait Authority for Public Partnerships (KAPP) to issue tender documents for the IWPPs.
