
Work will involve upgrading turbines and generators
Kuwaits Central Tenders Committee (CTC) has approved the KD73.8m ($262m) bid submitted by Japans Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) for the contract to upgrade the Doha West power plant.
The work will involve upgrading vapour turbines and electric generators at the plant.The other companies which had been prequalified for the tender included: Alstom (France), Ansaldo (Italy), General Electric (GE) (US), Siemens (Germany) and Toshiba (Japan). The client for the power project is Kuwaits Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW).
The Doha West power generation and water desalination plant is located about 15 kilometres west of Kuwait city, with a total power generation capacity of 2400MW and a desalination capacity 110 million imperial gallons a day (MIGD). The plant has eight power generating units.
