Kuwait awards hospital project management deal

US/local team will provide management services on eight hospital projects

Kuwait’s Health Ministry has awarded a KD1.8m ($6.2m) contract to the US/local team of Hill International and System Development & Project Management (SDPM) to provide project and construction management services for its planned hospital construction and renovation programme.

The partnership will provide management services for the ministry’s $513m programme, which will include the construction of new facilities and the renovation of existing facilities.

Kuwait is currently undertaking a large social infrastructure development programme to expand and upgrade its healthcare facilities.

On 12 October, 10 contractors submitted bids for the contract to build the new Ahmadi hospital, which will be located in the Ahmadi township, 40 kilometres south of Kuwait City.

The local Syed Hamid Behbani & Sons submitted the low bid of KD86.4m ($306.6m) for the main construction contract, followed by bids of KD86.9m and KD88.4m from the local Al-Ahmadiah Contracting & Trading Company and Al-Ghanim International respectively (MEED 14:10:10).
