Bids invited from local companies for 1MW of power production

Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to install 1MW of rooftop photovoltaic solar power capacity.

The solar panels are to be installed on the rooftops of the Ministry of Electricity and the adjacent Ministry of Public Works building in Kuwait City. The combined area of both rooftops is 8,400 square metres.

The RFP was issued on 27 March. A site visit will be held on 25 April and bids are due by 19 June.

Speaking on the sidelines of MEED’s Arabian Power & Water Summit 2011, Suhaila Marafi, director of studies at the Ministry of Electricity and Water, said the tender is open only to local construction companies.

Each company will be entitled to select their own technology provider, although the provider selected is required to have been in operation for at least 15 years.
