Kuwait moves on Al-Zour North 3 IWPP

28 November 2016

Scheme will be country’s fourth independent water and power project

Kuwait’s public-private partnership (PPP) body, Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP), will invite advisory proposals for the third Al-Zour North independent water and power project (IWPP) in 2017.

Speaking at MEED’s Kuwait Projects conference in Kuwait City on 28 November, Motlaq al-Sanei, general head of projects for KAPP, said that the organisation “call for advisory services for Al-Zour North 3 in 2017, hopefully in the first half [of the year]”.

The Al-Zour North 3 IWPP has initially been planned to have a power generation capacity of 1,800MW and a water desalination capacity of 75 million imperial gallons a day (MIGD). It will be the country’s fourth IWPP.

The fuel configuration for the Al-Zour North 3 plant has not yet been publicly announced. The country’s first two IWPPs, Al-Zour North 1 and 2, will run on natural gas while the planned Al-Khiran 1 IWPP will run on low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO)
