Kuwait municipality seeking consultants for masterplan review

12 May 2014

Population projected to grow by 50 per cent by 2030

Kuwait municipality is preparing to invite consultants to update its strategic masterplan.

Speaking at the Arabian World Construction Summit (AWCS) on 12 May, Kuwait municipality’s head of masterplanning Saad Muhailbi said it was preparing to invite consultancy bids to update the existing masterplan, which deals with the period to 2030, to take into account projected trends in Kuwait until 2040.

Muhailbi said Kuwait’s population is projected to hit 6 million by 2030, a 50 per cent increase on the country’s current population, which is estimated at 4 million people.

The original masterplan predicted that Kuwait’s population would be just over 6 million in 2030. The population growth rate has exceeded expectations and could be given a further lift if trade builds with Iraq, Muhailbi said.
