Four consortiums submitted bids for elevated road and related infrastructure contract

Kuwait’s Public Works Ministry has received bids from four consortiums to build the estimated $840m road and related infrastructure at Gamal Abdel Nasser Street, located in the West Shuwaikh area of Kuwait.

The work involves the construction of an elevated 11 kilometre road, linked roads, paths and rainwater drainage systems.

A consortium of the local Boodai Construction Company, Italy’s Rizzani De Eccher, Spain’s OHL and Italy’s Trevi Group submitted the lowest bid with a price of KD242m ($840m).

This was 6.6 per cent lower than the KD259m bid submitted by the second lowest bidder, the consortium of the local Kuwait Petro Energy and Korea’s GS Engineering.

The local Al-Dar Engineering in partnership with India’s Gammon submitted the third lowest bid with a price of KD266m.

The local Mohammed Abdulmoshin Kharafi & Sons in partnership with the China Major Bridge Engineering Company submitted a price of KD288m.

The contract is one of a number of projects the emirate has tendered this year as it seeks to upgrade its infrastructure.

In May, the ministry awarded a KD39.4m contract to the local Combined Group Contracting Company (CGC) to build intersections on the sixth ring-road serving the Jahra residential area, which is located about 30 kilometres northwest of Kuwait City (MEED 28:5:10).
