Kuwait receives bids for Mina Abdulla water pipeline scheme

Winning bidder will construct five pipelines from complex to West Funaitees

Kuwait’s Electricity & Water Ministry has received five bids for the construction of water pipelines from its Mina Abdullah water complex.

Bids were received from the following companies (all local):

  • United Gulf Construction Company – KD52m ($180m)
  • Combined Group Contracting Company – KD38m
  • Al-Ahmadi Contracting Company – KD47m
  • Canar Trading & Contracting Company – KD50m
  • KCC Engineering and Contracting Company – KD44m

The successful bidder will build five pipelines with a diameter of 1.6 metres to transfer water from the Mina Abdullah 2 water complex to West Funaitees.

Bids were opened on 18 May after the deadline for bids to build the project was delayed several times (MEED 21:12:09).

The Electricity & Water Ministry issued the tender on 1 March with a deadline date of 14 April 2009. The ministry prequalified 12 local companies for the project.

Kuwait’s water supply system is undergoing a major improvement works. In addition to the Mina Abdullah complex, a freshwater complex is also being built at Al-Zour.

The tender for the Al-Zour facility was launched in March 2009 and bids are now due in on 11 July 2010 following several deadline delays.
