Kuwait renews oil supply agreement

06 August 2003
Kuwait on 6 August extended for three months a commitment to provide oil at preferential prices to Jordan. Since the flow of discounted Iraqi oil stopped on the outbreak of war, Kuwait, along with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, have been providing 100,000 barrels a day (b/d) to help Jordan meet its fuel needs. Riyadh supplied 50,000 b/d while Kuwait and the UAE each supplied 25,000 b/d. The announcement of the renewed agreement came after meetings on 4-5 August between senior officials of the two states. Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah and the Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abul Ragheb discussed the current situation in Iraq among other issues.
