Kuwait scraps bids for Mina Abdullah water complex

Ministry sets 27 December deadline for construction and maintenance deal

Kuwait’s Electricity & Water Ministry has retendered a contract for the construction and maintenance of the second water distribution complex at Mina Abdullah.

The new deadline for bids is 27 December. The ministry will hold a pre-bid meeting on 9 November. 

Four groups had previously bid for the project. They were Japan’s Marubeni Corporation with Kuwait’s Combined Group; Switzerland-based ABB with Ahmadiah Contracting Company; Italy’s Saipem with Kharafi National; and South Korea’s SK Engineering & Construction with Sayed Hamid Behbehani & Sons Company.

The ministry is also seeking bids for the construction and maintenance of the second water distribution complex at Al-Zour. The deadline for bids is 29 December.

The ministry has prequalified nine companies for the scheme.

They are Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company; SK Engineering & Construction, GS Engineering & Construction and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, all South Korean; Switzerland-based ABB; Canada’s SNC Lavalin, Egypt’s The Arab Contractors, Japan’s Marubeni Corporation; and Italy’s Saipem.
