Project to be completed in 2018
Kuwaits Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) has selected local Al-Dar (HOT) Engineering & Construction Company (HOTECC) for the contract to build aircraft parking and corridors at the Kuwait International Airport (KIA).
The team offered KD12.2m ($40.5m) for the contract.
The project scope includes aircraft parking, corridors, civil work, street lighting and associated facilities.
The project is expected to be completed in 2018.
The contractor tells MEED they are still awaiting for the formal award of the contract from Kuwaits Central Tenders Committee.
The Kuwait government has allocated more than $6bn for the expansion of the KIA, which has been operating beyond capacity for years. The airport handled more than 10 million passengers in 2015, twice its design capacity of 5 million passengers annually.
In May, the contract for the $4.3bn Terminal 2 was awarded to a team of Turkeys Limak Holding and the local Kharafi National.
Terminal 2 is expected to be completed in 2020.
A team comprising Turkeys Cengiz Insaat Sanayi Ve Ticaret and its local agent First Kuwaiti General Contracting has also been selected for the contract to build and maintain a temporary passenger support building at KIA. The formal award of the contract is expected soon, according to sources familiar with the transaction.
